Intended Audience

This Understanding Healthcare Law course is an overview of the functions that are generally performed by allied health professionals who have previously completed the respective training. This course is intended to keep allied health professionals aware of the importance of duties often performed in a front-office and back-office/clinic setting as it relates. It is developed for front-line supervisors, workers, and trainees.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Understand Key Healthcare Regulations – Explain major healthcare laws such as HIPAA, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the False Claims Act and their impact on patient care and professional responsibilities.
• Apply Ethical and Legal Principles – Identify ethical dilemmas in healthcare settings and apply legal and ethical frameworks, such as patient rights, informed consent, and professional boundaries, to resolve them.
• Ensure Compliance with HIPAA – Demonstrate an understanding of HIPAA regulations by correctly handling patient information, maintaining confidentiality, and recognizing potential violations.
• Recognize and Prevent Fraud and Abuse – Identify common types of healthcare fraud and abuse, such as billing fraud, and describe strategies to ensure compliance with regulations like the Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law.
• Navigate Medical Malpractice and Liability – Define medical malpractice and negligence, understand the legal implications of errors in patient care, and implement risk management strategies to reduce liability.
